About Me
Hello! I'm Julia and I live in West Cornwall with my family after moving here from Kent in 2018.
At university I studied Fine Art and Archaeological Illustration then went on to an Open University degree in Greek and Roman History.
My love of ancient history and archaeology inspires a lot of my work; especially here in West Cornwall which is a wonderful patchwork of stone circles and ancient field systems. I'm intrigued by the marks we leave on the land over time and I particularly love aerial photography as inspiration for the patterns in my work.
Layering coloured textures, historical map symbols and stylised patterns are my interpretation and emotional response to the layers of history in the Cornish landscape.
Colour is also an important aspect of my work. The psychology of colour tells us they have a dramatic and subconscious effect on our moods and emotions; by deliberately choosing 'positive colour palettes' in all of my work, my goal is to to fill a room with happy energy, wherever my art may be displayed.
I hope to inspire a love of Colour and Cornwall in you too!
May we always love the places we call home and fill them with happy colour!
